On finding this old photo the other day, I was reminded of how we used to travel about twenty years ago. The big change is that we go without the three children, and barrels of picture and reading books, lego, jigsaw puzzles and some of the clothes needed for 3 years. Now there's a lot less packing to think about, but it needs to be even more judicious, in keeping with a different kind of journey, and a shorter sojourn in Kathmandu. How this will unfold remains to be seen, and a thousand questions assert themselves the moment I start to think about changes in Nepal and for its people, the landscape, Kathmandu itself, and Nepali and expat friends we might meet again. The city has grown so much faster than Adelaide (each was home to about one million people) since we were last resident, and Wikipedia says the Kathmandu Valley is home to about 2 million people now, so just that one change will be striking.
